TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY ASSESSMENTS

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), including concussion and more severe head injuries, can have a significant impact on cognitive, emotional, and functional functioning. While some individuals recover quickly, others may experience persistent difficulties with memory, attention, processing speed, and emotional regulation that affect daily life, work, and relationships. A comprehensive neuropsychological assessment can help clarify the nature and extent of these changes and guide appropriate rehabilitation and support.

Who May Benefit?

An assessment may be helpful for individuals who experience:

  • Persistent symptoms following concussion or head injury
  • Memory difficulties or forgetfulness after trauma
  • Reduced concentration or mental fatigue
  • Slowed thinking or processing speed
  • Difficulty returning to work, study, or daily routines
  • Headaches accompanied by cognitive changes
  • Emotional changes such as irritability, anxiety, or mood swings
  • Challenges with multitasking or complex tasks
  • Reduced tolerance for cognitive or environmental demands
  • Uncertainty regarding recovery after a brain injury

Important Considerations

Symptoms following brain injury can be influenced by a range of factors, including psychological stress, pain, sleep disruption, medication effects, and emotional adjustment to injury. A neuropsychological assessment helps distinguish between these factors and provides a clearer understanding of cognitive functioning and recovery needs.

Following the Assessment

Feedback is provided in a clear and supportive manner, including:

  • An explanation of cognitive strengths and areas of difficulty
  • Clarification of the likely impact of the brain injury
  • Individualised recommendations for rehabilitation and support
  • Strategies to assist with cognitive fatigue, memory, and attention
  • Guidance regarding return-to-work, study, or daily functioning
  • Recommendations for further treatment or referrals where appropriate

If you are experiencing ongoing cognitive or functional difficulties following a head injury or concussion, a neuropsychological assessment can provide clarity and guide recovery. Please contact the practice to discuss your needs.
