CHILD AND ADOLESCENT ADHD ASSESSMENTS

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents can present in a range of ways, often impacting attention, learning, behaviour, emotional regulation, and social functioning. Difficulties may become more noticeable in structured environments such as school, where increasing academic and behavioural demands highlight challenges with focus, organisation, and impulse control. A comprehensive neuropsychological assessment helps clarify whether ADHD is present and how it is affecting development and daily functioning.

Who May Benefit?

An assessment may be helpful for children or adolescents who experience:

  • Difficulty sustaining attention in class or during tasks
  • Frequent distractibility or daydreaming
  • Hyperactivity or restlessness
  • Impulsivity in behaviour or communication
  • Poor organisation of schoolwork or belongings
  • Difficulty following instructions or completing tasks
  • Emotional dysregulation or frustration intolerance
  • Inconsistent academic performance despite ability
  • Behavioural concerns at home or school
  • Ongoing concerns raised by teachers or caregivers

Important Considerations

ADHD symptoms in children and adolescents may overlap with learning difficulties, emotional challenges, developmental factors, or environmental stressors. A thorough assessment helps distinguish between these factors to ensure an accurate understanding of the child’s needs.

Following the Assessment

Feedback is provided clearly and sensitively and includes:

  • Clarification regarding the presence of ADHD
  • An explanation of cognitive and behavioural functioning
  • Individualised recommendations for school and home support
  • Strategies to improve attention, organisation, and emotional regulation
  • Guidance regarding classroom accommodations or further interventions

If you or your child are experiencing ongoing difficulties with attention, organisation, or concentration, a neuropsychological assessment can provide clarity and direction. Please contact the practice to discuss your needs.
