Learning difficulties (children and adolescents)

Learning difficulties can affect a child or adolescent’s ability to acquire, process, and apply academic skills such as reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics. These challenges may occur despite average or above-average intelligence and can significantly impact academic performance, confidence, and motivation. A comprehensive neuropsychological assessment helps identify the underlying cognitive factors contributing to learning difficulties and informs appropriate educational support and intervention.

Who May Benefit?

An assessment may be helpful for learners who experience:

  • Difficulty with reading fluency, comprehension, or decoding
  • Persistent spelling or writing challenges
  • Struggles with mathematics or numerical reasoning
  • Slow or effortful academic performance
  • Difficulty retaining or applying learned information
  • Poor working memory or attention in academic tasks
  • Academic underachievement despite adequate effort
  • Teacher or parent concerns regarding learning progress
  • Avoidance of schoolwork or low academic confidence
  • Suspected dyslexia, dyscalculia, or other learning disorders

Following the Assessment

Feedback is provided in a clear and supportive manner and includes:

  • Explanation of the learner’s cognitive and academic profile
  • Identification of specific learning strengths and difficulties
  • Recommendations for school-based support and accommodations
  • Strategies to support learning at home and in the classroom
  • Guidance regarding intervention, remediation, or further referrals

If you have concerns about learning difficulties or academic progress, we welcome you to contact us to arrange a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment.
